Life After Construction....

....Just in Time for Christmas!

The carpenters have been gone for almost a month. Upon leaving they remarked, they had never had a family live in a house during this type of remodel. I can attest to why! But I'll save you the whining! LOL! What started out as a very small project, mushroomed. I had moments doubting my sanity, induced by construction. Hindsight, I will have to admit, it was worth every speck of dust and aggravation! :)

Today, I have a "two for one" Post, the Remodel decorated for Christmas!

Below is the stairwell BEFORE... Now before you pass judgement, (and if it is bad, stand in line behind me! lol! I detested these blocks!), ...let me tell you the previous owners flew in a decorator from NY to design this. At this point, we had already added most of the molding.

Landing overlooking the foyer and "music area."

The faux-glass blocks removed...already a huge improvement!
I don't know if you can tell in the picture above, but the foyer was originally black marble and now is brown variegated tile. It had become very scratched and the grout was coming up. Cheaper to re-tile, than to save it.

Now for the picture below, ....down the road, we would like to have the hardwood floors refinished and darkened, (not in the budget this go-around!) So the carpet on the stairs remain for now.

The railings and banisters trial run, before stain.

Now for the AFTER....

O' Christmas Tree...

I couldn't bear to "Deck the Halls" by attaching garland to the railings this year....maybe next! :)

A few more pictures from this area....

Foyer view....

The leopard Santa from Tuesday's Post...
A few pictures of the tree ornaments...

A swap gift below, glittered Santa Post Card.

To view more Christmas decor, head over to Brett's, at The Southern Hostess for her weekly event. Her home is fabulous! ....and she has many other great participants this week!

Hope you all are having a Merry Christmas so far. My MIL is coming to stay with us for a few days, so I will be dropping in to visit when I can! She enjoys browsing your blogs too, so we will be checking you all out! :) ~Rhonda

Rhonda,
That is such a dramatic difference. I think the railings and staircase look fantastic.

Your big tree fits perfectly! I don't think you need any garland on the stairs since the tree is such a focal point!

I know you are glad that's over!

Great job!

Oh my oh my what a spectacular home you have. Glad you got rid of the blocks (very cool in a modern way) but the wood just warms up the house so much and judging from your decor is more "You" Enjoy, enjoy this season of Joy!!

When I scrolled to the picture of your stained and finished banister it seriously took my breath away! This is what I want in my next house! Such visual impact. I certainly can see why you wanted to remove the glass blocks, this change changes the entire feel of this entry way!! I can hardly wait to see more. Your tree is gorgeous too! Guess what, sheetrocking is supposed to FINALLY be done on Saturday. I hope so I really want to paint and get the room done! We don't have anywhere to hang our coats right now, LOL! Cindy Oh, you asked awhile back and I think I've decided on very light tan walls in there with the beadboard being antiqued. Hard to explain but I'm visualizing it as wonderful, well see. LOL! Enjoy your company, I may just sneak in with her and hide in a closet bz your house definitely brings Christmas cheer! Cindy

Wow! What a huge difference! Your new railing looks great & your tree is so gorgeous!

My husband has a thing for those tacky glass blocks and so far I've been able to avoid having him use them on anything. He's always pointing them out in Home Depot and I'm like "dude, are you stuck in 1994 or what??" lol Good grief!

Hope you're having a fabulous visit with your MIL!
