{treasures...}

Thanks for all of your sweet comments on our birdhouses.
After that post, I had a severe case of "blogger's block."
I have a few projects in mind to paint and spray paint but the weather is not cooperating.
....rain, rain, rain!
So stay tuned and I will share those later...

~~~
But for Today...
My dad asked me to stop by a couple of weeks ago to take a few pictures of his "new....old car" for the insurance company. Bless his heart, he is a smart fellow, but he rebels against technology. He is not computer savvy, nor does he own a digital camera. He intended on sending POLAROID pictures of the car. I don't see a future in blogging for him! LOLOL!
...just saying! :)
{My Mom can do most anything on the computer, but I don't think she wants to bother with him! LOL! }
Anyhow, below is the car....
Oh, it was LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT, for me!
Kevin collects old cars also, and will probably be a little offended that I have never featured or bragged on any of his. And maybe I don't appreciate old vintage cars as I should, being that I have been stranded just a few times by them. Probably the most angry Kevin has ever been with me, was when we broke down in his vintage '57 Chevy, but I'll save that story for another post, another day.
But this '57 yellow 'Wagon just struck a cord with my heart.
It looks so "June Cleaverish."
Can you just imagine June driving Wally and the Beaver to school or loading groceries in the back, all the while wearing her infamous high heels, perfectly groomed?
A girl can dream! :)
And just so you know, I've called dibbs on the car.....my inheritance.
I used the "eldest card" on my dad, trumping my brother.
Not that he wanted it, but just in case, we need to get some things straight now! LOL!
See the red truck in the background, reminds me of another story.
But that will have to wait until another post, another day also.
Seriously though, I don't make a habit of asking my parents for inheritances, this was all in jest.
{...although I really do love that car, color and all!}
I was reminded, of a few verses from Matthew 6:19-21.
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasures is, there your heart will be also."
This is not to say that having "things" on earth is wrong. If so, I would be the first one guilty; and consider all that I do have, a blessing from God. Nor are we to love our things above God. This verse reminds us that this world is not our permanent home, just temporary. And that treasures on earth are insecure. But Heaven's treasures are secure and for eternity.
In today's economy, that takes on a whole new light, and this promise is comforting. :)
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! ~Rhonda
I think God wants us to have "things" but not put them above him. Being a girl/lady/woman of that era when these cars came out -this car certainly stirred some old memories. It is wonderful for your Dad to have it and to enjoy his new old toy.
May you continue to receive the blessing from God.
This is just the cutest story! I loved reading about your parents and the car.
Now, I've really never been one to have any crazy warm fuzzies over cars, but that yellow car is pure coolness! Oh yes, June Cleaver for sure!
Thanks for stopping by to see me today. Looks like I need one of your birdhouses! Those are really, really neat!
It sure sounds to me like you have no shortage of blogging material! You made me so curious about some of the "stories for another day"! That car is soooo fabulous, and I really enjoyed your description of June driving it. Fun post. laurie
Oh Rhonda, I would have to call "dibs" on that one too. Today at Menard's (our home improvemet & lumber store) Jacob was drooling over a '57 Chevy that was for sale in the parking lot. The owner told us he was asking Thirty-five for her. I like a stoop said $3500. He busted out laughing and said "Oh no no - Thirty-five thousand! Well, I don't think that Jacob will be getting a classic anytime soon. ~ Robyn
Love Love Love the car!!! Right up my alley for sure.
The scripture and message really are more important today than say 5 or 10 years ago. Wonderful post!!!
Oh I can see why you love that car...what a wonderful shape and color. Sigh. Yup, I'd have called hoseys on it, too.
Thank you for visiting my blog; it gave me a chance to find yours too. I really like your birdhouses... maybe I can buy an unfinished one and paint it with those cute polka dots, but certainly couldn't build one. I also read your 100 things about me post... we have so much in common and you gave me some ideas for future posts. I am new to blogging and very impressed by all you pros!
During your post you thought of two more posts!! See you do have things to blog about, LOL! I get that way too sometimes. We've had some excitement around here with our next door neighbors but I just didn't feel like I wanted to blog about it. Maybe someday, maybe not. We'll see. Right now I'm so consumed with mission and marriage that I can't even see/think/walk straight anymore! Nicholas is moving into their apartment in 12 days (he counts down for me every day) so it's all about packing him up (not that it takes much) and moving him out. Then I need to paint and clean out my old office that he's used as a bedroom. Originally I told Larry I'd make him a "man cave" but he made so much fun of the idea that I'm turning it into partial sewing storage and the other part a nap room for Savannah complete with "Pack and Play" to nap in, TV, and a bean bag chair that's Travis'! It's a teeny tiny room so that's about all it can hold. Now Larry wants his "man cave" back! I can't win. I may have a few blogs coming out of that adventure but there's no time to post them. Just so this comment isn't all about me I have to say that I love that car. My grandma Annie had a blue Pontiac similar to it. I don't know the year but I do remember the fun drives we would take and how we'd roll around the back seat every time she took a sharp curve fast! No seatbelts for us back then, we really lived on the edge! LOL! Thanks for the memory and I hope the "oldest child card" works for you! It certainly did for my brother! LOL! Cindy
