Guest Bath Makeover

Unfortunately,
I can't find my "before" picks of the guest bath. But it is easy to describe...
white, white, ...harsh, stark white!

The walls were covered with white on white striped wallpaper. At one point, the plumbing surrounding the toilet must have been repaired, because the wallpaper behind the "stall" was pieced together, depicting a "patch job." (After removing the paper, I found that the sheetrock had been cut and replaced in sections, also.)

I decided to make the space more cozy, by removing the wallpaper and painting the space a soft greenish gray. Once on the walls, the paint took on a bluish green appearance. (Blue being the dominant tint!) I was disappointed, because it wasn't what I had envisioned in my mind, but it is such an improvement, it quickly grew on me!

Most of the accessories were just as before.
The sketches of the Cape River Steam Boats were bought at an auction years ago.
Glass shower doors covered by a shower curtain.
The little mice doorstop was a new find at Stein Mart. Hope they don't scare my guests! :) My son took a double-take when he saw them!

The piece over the toilet was purchased at a local resale shop, The Ivy Cottage, in Wilmington, a couple of weeks ago. If you ever venture this way, it is a wonderful place to stop and shop!

I was thinking, that much like the piece below, I have a lot of "refurbished second-hand" pieces in my home! Those of you who regularly visit my blog, know that I {heart} junk! :)
I began to wonder, if any of those perusing my home this Friday during the Home Tour would recognize or spot any of their cast-aways that I might have picked up at a yard sale, consignment or thrift shop! Wouldn't that be a hoot! :) ~Rhonda

Edited to Add: After a few comments, I thought I would clarify...The wallpaper was a real booger to remove! One of the toughest rooms I've ever attempted! But thank goodness, it was a small space and well worth it for the transformation. One of those jobs you put off, but are glad you did it when it is over! :)

Your bathroom looks great! You talked about removing that wallpaper like it was no big deal - I'm sure that was not an easy job. I like the paint color and the accessories. It looks fresh and new. :)

I know that sometimes wallpaper easily strips off, and I suppose that's what happened here. It sounds like the patch job on the walls was NOT professionally done as it should not show. I do like the soft color, and I imagine that it'd be a big improvement over white. (I remember the white-on-white craze!) Happy Blue Monday.

The door stop is absolutely the best - like that so much better than other door stops that are routinely installed in houses.

The wall hanging above the stool looks quite interesting.

I wish I could come on this home tour! I swear only you can make even a bathroom elegant. I love your refurbished finds and I agree that it would be a "hoot" to have someone find one of their old treasures. They may just want it back, lol! Is the show this week? Good luck with staying sane during it!

Rhonda, this is just beautiful! You did a super duper job, and I adore the mice. I'm proud of you girl! Your house is perfect for the tour. Was it last Friday or this coming? Either way, they will love it, and if they see those cool pieces in your home, they will think, "I used to have one just like that, and BOY, I wish I had kept mine!" ;-)

Happy Blue Monday...

Hi Rhonda, I love your bathroom makeover. I once removed wallpaper in a bathroom which involved resurfacing the walls. The paper ruined the drywall. LOL. I was in so much trouble. I am glad that did not happen to you. I love the color and the makeover is beautiful. Good job

I too heart thrift stores. What bargains can be found in those places. I am always so proud of myself when I find a great item for next to nothing. Then when the compliments fly, I keep my mouth shut. I don't want people to discover my secret places to shop. HA!

Hugs, Jeanne

Thanks for coming by. Those paintings are really nice. I'm sure you are glad you got that wallpaper down! I heard on HGTV one time, that you could dilute liquid fabric softener, and it would remove it once sprayed on. I've never tried it, so I don't know. I have always wanted to go to Ivy Cottage. I always see it advertised when I'm down at NMB. One of my friends lives in Wilmington, and another owns a store there, so maybe I can visit next summer. To your ?, there was a Black Lion closer to me in Cornelius, but it moved to Huntersville, which would have been about 20 minutes from Concord Mills, and still very easy for you to find, had you known (literally about 3 turns from the mall). There is also one in Pineville (unless it has closed too). I believe they told me the one in Concord Mills was closing b/c the rent was too high, but that were going to try to open another one in the Concord area. I don't know if they have yet or not. I love Black Lion, but after thrifting, I've gotten cheap, and hate to pay BL prices. It sure is fun to look though! I still buy things there sometime.

I checked out Ashley's blog! She says to leave a comment but no comment box ever appears so I'm wondering if she has disabled it by accident. I'd love to learn more about her. She's such a beautiful girl and seems to be so full of life and fun! I'd love to learn more about her friend who is like my Kaje'. Kaje' keeps us in stitches, especially when someone says or does something stupid and she'll just deadpan say "that's awkward." I doesn't sound funny in print but it's just hysterical. Anyway, I'll check Ashley's blog out again later and see if she'll let this old woman leave her a comment! Me
