{if three is a crowd...}

...what does that make FOUR???

You all know the cardinal decorating rule "of grouping items in odd numbers?"
Well, sometimes I don't follow the rules, I digress...
{sigh}

The THREE tin tole trays, below, were making a nice statement on my kitchen wall just as they were. I've had them for many years, using them in three houses as we moved.

And then last week I found a fourth one in my favorite antique store, Patsy's of Mullins, SC. It has a little damage, but that blends and isn't very noticeable, ....and I might add, the price was right! {smiles!}

I wondered if maybe I should wait until I found a fifth one, so the number would be "decoratingly correct," but given my track record for misplacing items, I felt it would be safest "stored" on the wall! {LOL!}
I must be feeling quite giddy and silly due to our beautiful spring weather today, but as I was hanging these, the song from Sesame Street popped in my mind.....

One of These Things
(Is Not Like The Others)

One of these things is not like the others,
One of these things just doesn't belong,
Can you tell which thing is not like the other's
By the time I finish my song?...

Song From Sesame Street, by Joe Raposo and Jon Stone

So, have you figured it out???

~Rhonda :)

Guess the answer is the bottom one - having the fruit in stead of all flowers...but the four of them look great (in my decorating eye) because of the colors and the positioning on the wall. I agree the rule of 3 or 5 ordinarily applies - but rules are made to be tinkered with... My vote "leave all 4 up".

I know, I know....the bottom one has fruit in the picture where the others are just flowers!!!! I say you can break the rules in decorating....now who made up those rules anyway????? The four of them look great hanging there...you can always add another when you find it.

Hmmm, I was going to say that the top one looks like a plate while the others look like tole trays. Whatever! They all look wonderful grouped together.

Yes the one of fruit is different. I think I'd hang them round, square, round, square shape wise. Aren't you sorry you asked?!!

Hi Rhonda! Who cares about the rules; I think the way you hung them looks better with even number!!! I love tole trays always have especially black ones but I can never find any; all these years and I've never come across one; must be shopping in the wrong States!lol Now, what's gonna happen when you get a 5th one????lol Have a great night - Jeannette

Rhonda, rules are made to be broken. They look great just like you hung them, and I love them all.

Oh, first let me thank you for your sweet comment about my dining room....I really am loving it!

Now, about the trays, I guess the bottom cause it's not flowers?!?! I have that same tray, love that turquoise-y (word?) color but they look beautiful, even if they are not odd in number.

Hugs!

Hi Rhonda...

Ooohhhh...I love your new tole tray! It looks lovely added to the others on the wall...but truthfully my friend, I think that if you want to use the odd number rule...it gives you good excuse to just find another pretty tray! hehe!!!

Warmest wishes,
Chari

Hi Rhonda! The fruit! I love them all, heck use four, they all are pretty and I like that the bottom two are larger than the others. That shape works for me! Deb

Fruit and flowers go together like love and marriage.......hum now I'm thinking of the love and marriage song. Your group of for looks great and I'm so with you on storing it on the wall so you don't loose it. I do that all the time.
Hugs,
Sue

My first thought on the differences was the color not the fruit vs flower theme. I like them like you have them.

I think they look great hanging in a group of four. I'm guessing it's fruit and that's the difference.

I'm thinking you could just send one to me... for safe keeping!

I like this arrangement and with the bottom one being fruit instead of flowers you still sort of have an odd number.:-) Beautiful trays!

Rules aren't for random people trying to nest their nests while looking for their Easter decore.:-) LOL
I am random and right brained to the core! I try to follow the rules but I loved your logic of hanging them on the wall, at least they won't get lost until the 5th can be found. They are each beautiful and I think they all go together!
I enjoyed your St Patrick's post:-)

Hugs, beth

Hi Rhonda... This was a fun post and I loved the lil song! But, I Love your trays even more! As long as you have no fear of the "Decorating Rules Police" knocking on your door, then do whatever tickles your fancy! LOL ... I've always enjoyed your flair for decorating and your tray arrangement is Awesome! I own only one such tray, and it had belonged to my Mom...

Hope all is well in your corner... things are pretty much the same around here... finally enjoying some decent weather... Spring arrives this Friday... YAY!
God bless...

Hi Rhonda,
I like the group of four and to heck with the decorating rules! ;) They are pleasing to the eye too being bottom heavy. They are surely a keeper, Rhonda!
