{an inquiring mind wants to know}

Just what would you do???

I found a cute little stool at an auction Saturday.
It is really solid, but needs recovering.
Now I am trying to decide where to put it and if I should spray paint it?
I thought about putting it by the chair below.
It does make this area cozier, but would have to be spraypainted.
The chair is more modern and has a {dusty...ugh!} satin black finish.

I thought that if I spraypainted it satin black, and recovered it with the brown dotted fabric below, it might work well.
I am NOT against spraypainting. I do quite a bit of it! :)
But do I want to ruin the wood finish of the stool as it is now?
{I think it is an older piece! ...heavy weight!}

Or would it look better resting in front of the fireplace?
Leave the wood finish alone, except a good cleaning, of course.

... and cover it with this fabric , which would coordinate well with the pillows on the sofa across the room.
Or maybe even this taffeta striped material to add an elegant touch.
Decisions,
Decisions!
So what do you think?
Ashley will tell you I am going to do what I want, ...LOL!
But I would love input, I'm stumped at the moment!

I would paint it black and put it in front of that awesome chair! I could just sit in that chair forever...love it! You do have some great ideas and wonderful fabric so you cant go wrong. I cant wait to see what you decide... have fun!

If you cover the stool with the same fabric as the chair (or the pillow) it will "match." I would never paint good wood.

Lovely stool! I love the polka dots fabric. It will look great!

I so remember the days when we stripped things to get them back to the good wood. I like Smilingsal's suggestion.

I wouldn't paint the wood either. It looks like it is in good shape. As for fabric...they are all nice! I don't think it has to be matchy to sit it anywhere, including in front of the chair. That's my thoughts...but, as I tell my hubby...you are going to do what you are going to do anyways!! Enjoy!

Spray paint it, put the dotted brown fabric on and put it next to the chair!

I say put it in front of the fireplace with the co-ordinating fabric to matche the chairs across from it. I think i'd be afraid to spray paint if it's heavy wood.

I'm sure what ever you decide will be gorgeous. I really love that blue and green fabric on your round table.

My thoughts:

1. Don't paint.

2. I prefer the fabric that has a lot of white in it.

However, it is your home - do what makes you happy.

I think it looks too wonderful in front of the chair not to use it there. It looks a tad bit too small in front of the fireplace but it might just look that way in the photo. I would spray it black and use a solid black fabric since there is a dotted fabric already on the chair. Maybe a black tone on tone fabric that has a striped pattern in it. Just my thoughts.

We're still in California so I've had very little time for blog visiting but I had a few minutes and wanted to say "Hi" and catch up with you. I've loved seeing all your bunnies, especially the faux chocolate ones. Cute cute cute.

I'm glad you're feeling better.

Hugs!

I like it in front of the fireplace with the black and white fabric - leave the wood as is:)

Hi Rhonda... You know I have to get in on this and cast my vote, too! I would not paint it. My fabric choices in order of preference are: polka-dots, stripes, B&W. If you use a more neutral fabric, then you'd be able to move the stool around the house more. My passion for fireplaces makes that be my vote for location. Just to confuse you further, have you considered adding a trim? tassels? pom-poms? OK girl, get to work and let us know what you end up doing with your latest treasure! You know how much I love a good mystery!!

XOXOXOXOXOXO ~ Pearl

I like the taffeta striped material with the wood unpainted.

What ever you decide will be perfect!

Hi Rhonda,
I love your little stool. Great find! I think all of your choices are good but if I were in your place, I would paint it black and cover it with option #2 (black and white print or is that brown and white?) Either way that's my favorite and it would look so smart in front of your fireplace! Can't wait to see what you do.
Have fun!
Warmly,
Alisa

Hi Rhnoda,
Lots of great suggestions and here is mine :)
first fabric that is brown with dots and leave the wood. Just a good cleaning and then some Old English polish in the dark formula.
Okay...have fun deciding and have a good weekend.
Warmly,
Deb :)

Thanks for stopping over and visiting...please come back again!

As for the bench...umm I think since it might be real old...I would keep the wood same color and just clean it real good...to old to paint in my opinion but do what makes you happy!

Will be back tomorrow to visit more of your post..please come back cause I am in the mood for a giveaway.

That is a tough one! I love all three choices of fabric-in fact I have two of those fabrics in my house for window treatments. :)

I would probably paint it black and put it with the chair.

It's really adorable as is.

Your Leopard printed chair is gorgeous!
I must remember to find a wreath to hang on my mirror.
I forget and then when I visit your blog I get inspired again.

Love your home! :)

Hi and thanks for dropping by. My vote is for the black and white fabric. It will look great, go for it!

I would paint the stool black. Just be careful if you spray paint because of drips and I love the polka dot fabric with it. The chair and ottoman look like they go together.

That stool is a super find...no matter what you do with it, it's going to look wonderful because it has such good 'bones'. Hope you have fun deciding...Nancy

I like both ideas..but...I would just cover it with fabric for now...think on it a while. Once you paint it...it would be very hard to strip that piece and it looks to be in good shape. I wouldn't be in a rush. Besides for now it looks nice in front of the fireplace that you prolly wouldnt be using for a while...either way it will be beautiful~good find!!!

If you put it by the chair, I would paint it black and recover it to match the chair. If you want to leave it the wood, which is pretty, I would cover it and leave it by the couch. I don't think it is best in front of the fireplace though.
You will find the best solution. It will work out for you.

Hi Rhonda! I really love the last fabric that you showed but, I wouldn't paint it. I would just clean it up and rub on a little stain to freshen it up. It's very lovely! Deb
