Send In the Cavalry...

...If I'm not out, say within 24 hours.
I'll be buried beneath mounds of wallpaper.

Amongst all of the other remodeling that has taken over the house
(and will hopefully to be finished by next Friday),
I decided to strip the wallpaper down in the Master Bedroom and repaint it light chocolate brown. I had the paint from another project I previously ditched, and have brown dupioni silk panels stored....somewhere....
So it was more of a project of labor than cost. Good thing at this point! LOL!

This room has always been a "thorn in my side." I've completely changed the bedding and curtains at least 3 times in the 3 years we have lived here, but the room is still cold and bland.

Kevin and I woke up Saturday morning, and he said...I hate this room. I agreed, yea, me too.

I don't know if it is the white striped wallpaper that was here from the previous owner, or just the way the room catches the outdoor light, but I am so hoping, with a new color scheme, it will be warm, cozy, and a sanctuary. ...and a little more romantic! :)

I realized after the first few sheets, that I may have bitten off more than I could chew, and the timing is not the best, (this close to Thanksgiving).

But when I am tired and sore, I think of my Grandma B., who built a shed and an outdoor storage building right by herself, ...and keep on stripping! LOL!

So, this is what my weekend looks like....

How about you?

I have a secret: I PAY someone to strip off wallpaper for me. To me, it's worth it, but I'm old and arthritic, so... Your bed is gorgeous!

Oh Rhonda, my heart goes out to ya girl! About two seconds after I started peeling the wallpaper off our bathroom walls during our remodel I was thinking what have I got myself into. Thanks for my hero. He's always ready and willing to jump in a tackle any mess I've started! LOL!!! Can't wait to see it when your finished.

Hi Rhonda! I don't envy you at all! LOL!! But maybe I can help. What I found easy about removing the paper was that if I was able to get the top layer off all I had to do was spray the paper underneath with plain water wait five minutes and it peeled right off. I can't wait to see the finished product I'm working on my bedroom now and a few other things. Have a great weekend. DEb

Progress is always painful in the process but the end results....well worth it.

You don't take on small projects, do you?! Hope it all goes well - be sure to show us when it's finished!

Thanks for linking up the recipe - yummy! Easy and delicious. My son would love these as he's not a big chocolate fan (how can that be?), though I would have to leave out the nuts for him. Maybe I could put nuts in half!

Have a great weekend!

This weekend (no booing from the masses) We are going to start decorating for Christmas! My daughter is going to have a baby either right before Christmas or the day after so our plates will be very full in December. ~♥

You will be a pro by the time you're done in there! Why don't we fly you out here to strip my bedroom of its wallpaper and I'll even treat you to lunch if you do!! Who knows when I'll get to that job.....I'm still finishing the laundry room. Sad, I know. I can hardly wait to see it when you're done. I love the furniture already! So wonderful to have Kevin in your corner on this. My husband could not have any less interest in decorating the home but at least he doesn't care what I choose to do and he always says he likes it, even if I remove one of his off white walls while I'm at it!!

Hi Rhonda! When I finished taking the paper down my walls were white underneath just as yours are. So I just painted over them. I did wipe them down a little where I thought there may still be a little adhesive. It turn out great! Though I know that my walls were primed before the wallpaper. Deb

Yuk!Picture me singing this "Nanny Nanny Boo Boo! My weekend's gonna be better than yours!" LOL Hmmmm...not sure what I'm gonna be doing, but whatever it will be, it's gotta be better than removing wallpaper! Right?! But, in the end, you're gonna be so happy you did it. Can't wait to see the finished project.

Hugs!

My weekend looks very much like yours. We're still working on our bedroom and I'm still getting the kitchen cabinets ready for painting. My house is in such a state of chaos that I could cry - well, actually I have - I don't do clutter and disorganization well.

Amelia said...

We have faith in you...you will finish the project...it will look great. Sure, you will be tired but think of what all you learned in the process. I agree removing wall paper is one of the least pleasant jobs in remodeling.

Try to have a fun weekend!

Quite the undertaking! I have stripped a few walls in my day. All my walls are paper free now. Good luck, I love your bedspread!
The wall color sounds like it will go great with it.

Don't give up!!! I smiled when you mentioned that your Grandma B built a shed herself. Now that's my kind of woman. Have a great day!

I can't wait to see what your new bedroom looks like when you're finished. The old wallpaper reminds me of the wrapping paper at Belk!! You know around the holidays Belk always has some pre-wrapped gifts sitting on tables? Yeah, that wallpaper looks just like the wrapping paper!
