{Copy Cat Met ~ Fall Vignette}

I found the silver tray below at a second hand shop awhile ago.
Because of it's rather large size, 19" x 29," it was easy to spot on the bottom shelf of an overcrowded booth. My heart began to leap as I pulled it out! I was just crazy about this piece! :)

It is quite heavy, and I almost dropped it when I saw the price on it....ONE DOLLAR!!!

Being too cumbersome to carry through the store while continuing to browse, I left it at the front desk. But I was so afraid someone else would latch on to my treasure, I kept circling around to make sure it was still there! :)

However, in spite of it's grand size and intricate design, the silver finish was in really bad shape!
I tried to clean it, but to no avail did it look any better.

So in the style of "Nell Hill", I spray painted it black.
I'm not above copying a really good idea! :)

The tray was then used as a base for one of my fall vignettes.

The black serves a wonderful grounding for the vignette and looks so rich against the deep FALL colors!

Rhonda,

You know the best part of using this tray (aside from the grand looks of the vignette) is when you get ready to dust this shelf...you only have to move one item - the tray? Of course, you need a steady hand so everything stays in place.

Looking forward to more of the "fall" decorating!

Wow that looks absolutely fantastic - doesn;t it make you feel good when you get something so cheap yet it can end up looking really expensive :) Thanks for sharing

I never would have thought of spraying it black!!! I have a large similar one in bad shape too. Could it be sprayed with a silver paint and work as well?

You always share such great tips and ideas. Thanks.
Susan

You do have such an eye for beauty! I would never have thought to spray paint this black. I have a sterling silver candy dish that my husband got for being employee of the year before we were married. He gave it to me and I put lemon drops in it and scratched the bottom. I've wanted to get it redipped for years but maybe this is a better option! It certainly would be cheaper! Thanks for stopping by. I just wondered what had happened bz I used to get like 10-20 comments and now I'm lucky to get 3-5. Oh well, it's for a public journal anyway but when I found the cartoon I couldn't resist! Our first home wasn't anything fancy but I have it due to autopost either tomorrow or in a couple of days (I don't remember when and I'm too lazy to look right now). Thanks again for stopping by, I've missed you! Love the vignettes too.

Clarification: The post isn't about our "first" home but the home we owned before this one. Our first home was actually a mobile home that we bought when we were married about six months. I truly loved that mobile home! Me

I have a wonderful idea that is pure genius! If we could just find a way to fly you out here you could help me put some character and life into my home and decorations! Wouldn't that be fun. Maybe you could just fly to Picket's and get a U-Haul and bring the stuff from her shed she's giving away to all her kids (did you know she's moving?), and maybe a few other talented bloggers. I have so many plans but not enough time or $$$ to see them through right now, plus I really hate to paint and my husband likes off white walls. Since I painted the laundry room walls tan I've really liked that room and I want to keep it going through the rest of the house. We could get Tootsie and Jessica to landscape my yard and make it have some curb appeal again. We could also get some of these fantastic quilters I've met to dress up the beds! When we were done we could all go crash at your lake house (love how I not only invited myself but all my blogging buddies?) and just enjoy the serenity and the beauty of your home by the lake! Oh, if dreams could only really come true! For now I'll just be satisfied getting warm fuzzies in my heart as I put up a certain little beautiful pumpkin tassel with my fall decor. I hope to get it done this weekend.
