Framed Memories in Silver

I happened upon a really neat blog this week,
The Gypsy Fish Journal, the host of Silver Sunday. First, let me say, I don't have many silver pieces in my home! I love silver, especially in other's decor, but I am still stuck in the Olden GOLDen age. One day, I just know I'll be back in style with my gold, brassy accents. Doesn't everything make the full circle of design, sooner or later. :)
I do have a silver frame I'd like to share. It holds a photo of someone who was very dear to me....my Grandmother B.

The picture was taken at my Grandmother's home, when I was about 2 1/2. {I'm pictured with my grandma and grandaddy ~ 1970 ~ Maternal side}

I loved all of my grandparents. My grandaddys were both sweet, quiet men. But I had a very special bond with my grandmothers. They were total opposites personality wise. And although they were different and unique in their own ways, they were both exceptional ladies. Words can not describe how much I loved and admired them!

Growing up, on cold nights such as the one we are experiencing now, you could find me camped out with my Grandma B. for a night of crafting! We stayed up until our project was complete, no matter how late, laughing and getting sillier as the hours progressed.

And then as the days began to warm, and winter gave way to spring, we shopped local plant nurseries. Many were small, operated out of someone's home. Some of the flower varieties we found were rare and the prices were cheap! :)

When I was expecting my first child, Ashley, Grandma and I routinely hit the local thrift shops, close to her home to look for baby clothes and linens. We found so many beautiful, vintage crisp cotton pieces! I inherited my "thrifting" gene from her!

I could post memories to fill this page, but will share just one more. On Sundays, I am particulary mindful of going to church with Grandma. I was raised in church, but Grandma's was different. She was a charter member of a very small country church that was formed when I was in grade school. The newly formed congregation started in an old one room clapboard wood building. It closely resembled the church from The Little House on The Prairie. {minus the chalkboards} Grandma loved her church! And she loved the Lord! Normally a quiet and reserved lady, I can still remember how loudly she would sing the old gospel hymns during Sunday services. The Old Rugged Cross was her favorite!

Sadly, in her last years, she was plagued by dementia. She lived to be 96 or 98. Her church was in the process of building a new, beautiful Sanctuary, and she fretted terribly over not living long enough to see it completed! In a confused state, her worry was quite pitiful.

But she did. The new church was finished, and on one of her "better days," which were far and few between by this time, my mom carried her. I remember this part with fondness, because I know it meant so very much to her! She was a precious soul, and my life is so much richer for having been a part of hers! ~Rhonda :)

O, Scooter...this is such a lovely post that it brought tears to my eyes. The tears form each time I hear of someone loving their grandmother so much..I didn't have a grandmother..both of mine died before I was born. I think this is one reason I pray every night and day that my grands will remember me with a lot of love. I try my very best to be the best grandmother I can be because, first of all, I love all 10 of my grands so so much..and I want them to have precious memories of having a gandmothe that they loved and spent time with.

I love your beautiful silver frame...

Oh sweetie, what a beautiful post. I too sat here with tears in my eyes. What a beautiful tribute in a beautiful frame. My most cherised moments as a child was spending time with my Grandma. She didn't do anything special with us, like we do with our grandkids today. She shared of herself. Her love for family, cooking and gardening. I always looked forward to our Sundays with her. It entailed a 2.5 hour drive, to share a visit and lunch with her and Grandpa. She made the best cherry pie and mashed potatoes.. oh you brought back some cherished memories today. Stay in and stay warm darling, we have a -10..

You were so blessed to have two grandmas. I only had one grandma and she died when I was 9. I call her Gramma Annie. I have a few of her things that I cherish. I too think gold will come back around, things always do. I love the gold when I have warmer colored things. I like the silver when I have the cooler colors like blue.

Now...I need to know what you put in that apothecary jar (2) behind the picture! I have one and I'm struggling to know what to put in it. I had bought a smaller one too that I liked so I had a set of 3 glass jars I was actually going to decorate with. As I washed the little one that was fresh from the store it snapped and broke when I went to dry it. I guess that's why I got it so cheap at Ross. The other two that are from Tai Pan Trading have been washed multiple times and are much thicker glass. I just don't know what to put in them. HELP! I love the silver Sunday idea too.

I hope it warms up soon for both of us! At least today I have beautiful clear bue skies out my windows and it's supposed to get up to the low 20s...WHOOHOOO HEAT WAVE! Big smiles! Me

I hope to be "that" kind of Grandma. One live to age 93 the other to 86 or 87 and she died about 4 years ago. Thanks for sharing your Grandma!
I still haven't heard from Pearl and will call her this week.
Warmly,
Deb :)

What sweet memories you have of your grandmother! And the frame is absolutely gorgeous! I also have a few "golden" pieces that will just have to stay until they come back in style! lol They were too expensive or I love the memories attached them, so I'll just keep them! Happy week!...Debbie

Rhonda, it's so neat that you have those pictures and memories. I have wonderful memories of one of my grandmothers. They other lived too far away but when we were together it was wonderful. Really...there's nothing like the love of a grandmother. It's complete and unconditional.

You have some sweet memories, Rhonda, of your grandmother. I like the frame, and I agree that gold and brass will never be fully gone. Why not have all metals?
