Saturday Evening Post...

Since I haven't blogged since Wednesday, I hardly know where to begin! :)
Yard Sales, I suppose are as good a place as any...
I only found one yard sale today, and was pretty pleased to get the Paris picture for Ashley's room, and the fish soapdish for the lake...both for a dollar! (got a 25 cent discount...woohoo!)
The flea market was packed, but full of 80's decor, that no amount of spray-paint could transform!!! LOL!

Finally, it feels like Fall!!!
The last few days have been so nice and much cooler, with little humidity!
Fall in our household brings about harvest time...corn picking!
Kevin and Josh making their first round of the year, below.
Is this not the cutest little combine??? It was made in 1968, the same year I was born!
Doesn't need near the maintenance I do to keep it up! LOL!

Josh making a few adjustments...

So on to the more fun, girl-stuff!

I have now joined the ranks of Ballard Designs Copy-Cats! Marie and Susie are both such pros, with their imitations, I had to jump on the band-wagon!

TAKE NOTE: Ballard Designs will be featured on the Oprah Show Monday. I don't normally watch Oprah, but I did get an email from Ballard Designs, so I will definitely make an exception! Have the Tivo already set! :)

Why you should never give anything away...
My MIL gave me this lamp several years ago. It's cute and gives off great accent lighting, but it is silver. ...Doesn't really fit in with my decor. I started to put it in the "thrift store" bag last week, but I just love the capiz shell accent. So I stuck it back under the bathroom counter.
Then I got the Ballard's Catalog in the mail...and look below....

Capiz shell lighting with dark brass metal hardware.
I went to Wal-mart for a can of Rustoleum, and here is my very own imitation...

But the Copy~Cattin' didn't stop there.....

Scattered all over the magazine, on the backs of chairs, knobs, etc., were bayleaf wreaths, tied and hung with pretty wide checked ribbon.
So, I went "shopping in my store," and found an old bayleaf wreath. (Boy, is that a real tongue-twister!) Couldn't find the ribbon in a check, but I did find a wide satin chocolate brown.

(The two pictures below don't do it justice. The leaves are more uniform and full all around, than appears in the picture.)

Here it is hanging in my newly trimmed windows! The windows had no moldings around them. (None in the entire house!) I compensated by strategically using window treatments! The guys are doing such a good job trimming them out, now I don't want to cover them back up.

Just a few more shots of the kitchen...
Didn't want to overdo "pumpkins"....too late, huh! LOL! The cute little turnip was something a little different to add to my fall decor, found at HL.

My dad gave me the old picture above, and it reminds me of my favorite story of Ruth and Naomi.

We also added a coffered ceiling to the kitchen, painting it a lighter shade of green, trimmed in white...

That is about all I have to share! I am hoping to put out my "outside fall decor" tomorrow!
Here are a few sneak peeks of what I will be using.....

Hope everyone is having a great weekend! ~Rhonda :)

It looks like you have been busy. Do you grow the corn on your land/home. I think that is wonderful! Too funny about being born the same year as the combine but needing more maintenance.

I like what you did with the lamp. Unfortunatly I give things away when I no longer have a need for them. I guess I should stop doing that!

Your windows and fall decorations are really lovely. I am sure you are loving all the remodeling!

take care,

So good that just a can of paint can turn something ready to be cast away all of a sudden take center stage. The lamp looks great with the new paint job.

Looking forward to your outside fall decor.

Your dining room looks lovely. I like the capiz and bronze lamp. Nicely done. I love my Ballard Desing catalogs. They are so much fun to look through and oooh and awe over. I love the artwork and fabrics, oh okay and the furnitre, of course.

Hi Rhonda,
I enjoyed looking at all your pictures. About Oprah....I really like Ballard Designs but I no longer will have anything to do with Oprah, so you will have to fill me in.

Hi Rhonda,
Your kitchen is lovely and I can appreciate leaving the windows without coverings as we also have been putting new trim around all of our windows.:) Lots of work to cover up, for now...
I haven't heard of Ballard Designs, quess I'm out of the "Loop"
Warmly, Deb

You once again win the design award for renewing things! I wish I had your eye for beauty. The more I see of your home the more I love it. That window is incredible too in the kitchen! The ceiling......I have no words for it except magnificent. I just don't have the knack for putting those kind of things together. I'm just about ready to buy the paint for the laundry room but can't decide what color. Decisions, decisions. The plumber has to get back out here first and then the sheetrockers. Sometimes I think this repair project will never end!

Great job on the capiz lamp! Good thing you didn't throw it out! You have such a lovely home. I really like the arrangement on that bureau in your kitchen. Gorgeous!

Hi Rhonda... I couldn't sleep, yet, so here I am, again! Loved this post and seeing a lil bit of this 'n that around your home... the remodeling is coming along nicely! Did Ashley like her Paris print? If your lil fishie isn't happy at the Lake House, send him swimming my way... LOL ... he is just adorable! Your Bay Leaf Wreath creation is so beautiful and lush looking... as always, you did an excellent job! Ohhhh... don't I know how thrilled you are to have kept the Capiz Shell Lamp... amazing what a touch of paint will do! I'll be looking forward to your upcoming outdoor Fall decor... God bless...

~hugs 'n love 'n prayers~

I like what you did with your MIL's lamp. It's a beautiful thing, and it's good you didn't toss it.

I love your windows too. I choose not to cover mine with curtains unless I need the privacy. I like to look at God's world.

Hi Rhonda!

Your house is gorgeous! Don't you just love your lamp on the table in front of your fav pic from your Dad? I have a lamp with that same color shade and the light it gives off is soooo pretty!

Hey, I didn't know you made tassels!!! I saw the beautiful one you sent to Picket! Wow!!!

Love your lamp re-do, too! Reminds me that I need to look for that Rub & Buff stuff, lol. I think someone said they bought it at Michael's. I have looked at Home Depot and Lowe's, but they don't carry it.

Have a wonderful day :)
