Goodies Galore...

A Little Family History...
Yesterday, I posted this picture of the Alton Lennon Federal Courthouse, located in Downtown Wilmington. I'd like to share a family-related historical tidbit about it.

The Courthouse was built from 1914-1916.
Kevin's Grandaddy Coot was among some young neighborhood boys playing in the street outside, as the very first court was called into session. To pick the first jury, the judge sent someone outside, holding a hat full of names. He instructed the man to have one of the boys pull names out of the hat for jurors. The six year old little boy who picked the first jury for Federal Court at the new courthouse, was Kevin's Grandaddy.

Now on to the Goodies...

I recently participated in the Very Vintage Halloween Swap hosted by Heidi, at Foxgloves, Fabric, and Folly. I met a sweet, new blogger friend through the swap, my partner Lori, from Morning Glories and Moonflowers. She sent me a FABULOUS package of Fall Goodies!

The excitement mounted as I opened the box and saw the green shiny tinsel and purple tissue paper.
Each item was individually wrapped with festive ribbons, that I plan to reuse! :)

Did I make out, or what??? Look at the amazing gifts Lori sent! I just love it all!
David joined in the excitement and helped unwrap, and pose the items for pictures!
Look at this precious little cat couple....
Lori made the super cute button bracelet, and sells them in her etsy shop! Ashley has been eyeing the bracelet, and the mug! David was most impressed that I received "Bath and Body Works Pumpkin Handsoap!" LOL!

Lori also made the beautiful glittery BOO blocks, below!
Thank You so much Lori! You made my day, especially with the hand-crafted items, and I will think of you for years to come, as I enjoy them each Fall!

FOUND GOODIES...
I have been going through some stuff that has been packed up for years, from a house we moved from 12 years ago! Some of the things, I have wondered where they were, and others I had forgotten about! I RE-found some pretty cool treasures that came from yard sales, auctions, or were handed-down. Kevin, Ashley, and I have been taking a long trip down memory lane, as each item was uncovered!

The white hobnail Milk Glass Pitcher is now being used as a tea pitcher.

The blue "airplane spoon," was Ashley's when she was a toddler! And yes, we sailed many a vegetable through the air, making swooping plane sounds, trying to entice Ashley to take a bite! :)
My Grandmother Butler made the rabbit and attire! I'm trying to figure out the best way to clean her. She also gave me the "Turnabout" Cookie Jar,...it's "two-faced." I doubt the paint was original, but added by a previous owner! :)

The Pillsbury Dough Boy, below was mine as a child, dated 1971. I just love this round white puffy guy! The black spice holders were handed down from Kevin's family.

And this was my favorite find...
An old scale!
As of last Friday, I had nothing to post! Now I seem to have abundance of material.... What a difference a few days makes! LOL! Thanks for all of your encouragement! ~Rhonda :)

Loved the bit of history about the courthouse and Kevin's family tree.

You did make a haul with your box of goodies...bet you oohed and aahed over all of them...I know I would have.

Seeing all the "old" items - now wondering how to use them once again will be the new challenge.

You sure do have a bunch of good stuff. You should've stretched it out a bit and made it several days of posting.

I think the two faced cookie jar with the paint is original, as I have seen these at consignment malls before, and they were painted as well.

Nice treasures!

Hi Rhonda,
I couldn't help but smile at Sally's comment, cause that's what I do is spread stuff out! That way I never get caught up on all the potential blogging topics.

Looks like you found some great stuff...I really love the old scale!

Isn't that fun to rediscover past goodies. We have boxes in our crawl space from TWO moves and 20 years ago. We can't find the matching gravy boat and carrot/celery sticks bowl to my good china and I think that it got packed with the old bar glasses. But the thought of going down there is frightening. Not because it's scary - it's because it's just loaded to the gills with stuff! ~ Robyn

Wow! Lucky you....so many goodies!

Recently, I did the same thing. I opened up some old boxes that had been stored away and the memories flooded back. It's a nice feeling.

Hugs!

The paint on your cookie jar is called "cold paint" where it was added after the glaze was fired and quite common on jars of that era. i think they are charming and I'm hoping to start a collection...I just need time to go hunt some down.

I'm always afraid to do swaps bz I've been ripped off on similar things in life before. I'm glad to see your's turned out so well. You did get some really nice things! I knew you'd find things to post about bz life keeps happening and it gives us new blog posts!! I'll look today and see if I can find the whole kit for Witchalena with the references for you. I'm actually FINALLY ready to decorate and have my front room back. It's been a long haul. If we can just get the plumber here Friday I can paint this weekend and then only have the flooring installed before I'm done. It's been a long haul bz we have had to pay for the upgrades out of pocket but what better time to do them?!

Your trip to Wilmington looks amazing! What a quaint town. Great steal on the shoes!!!!! WOW!!!
Funny story about the golf cart too. I'm sorry but I did have to laugh...........maybe it was His plan to leave you stranded so you could have even more time for just the two of you!!! LOL!!!
Miss you!
Heather:)

PS My Dad is doing well. Surgery on his arm went well. He is having problems with severe heartburn now due to meds that he is on. The cardiologist did shock his heart to put it back in rhythm. It worked!! No more arrythmia! He is bored though as fall is usually his time of the year- hunting, hiking, woodworking, etc. And it will be three months before he can get back to work. He has a lomg time yet so I am trying to think of a hobby he can do to help pass the time. :)
